Benton Grade School Choirs

Benton Grade School vocal music offers performance opportunities for all students in grades 5-8. 


5th and 6th Grades

In addition to classroom music once a week, 5th and 6th grade students may join a treble chorus. Chorus rehearsals are twice weekly and typically meet before school. 

Choir Performances 

The 5/6 Choir performs two concerts a year (Christmas Concert and Spring Concert) and have the opportunity to participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest in the spring.


7th and 8th Grades

7th and 8th grade students are offered Mixed Chorus and Lab Choir (audition choir) as an elective in their daily schedule. Mixed Chorus and Lab Choir will combine for three major events throughout the school year – Fall Concert, Christmas Concert and Spring Musical. All chorus and lab choir members have the opportunity to participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest.

Lab Choir Performances

Our Lab Choir is busy performing the National Anthem at many events as well as Christmas Caroling, Southern Illinois Vocal Festival, Civic Clubs and Organization performances and Graduation. 

Awards

Each year the Lab Choir selects an outstanding choir member to receive the Rebecka Garavalia Lab Choir awardfor excellence in music, leadership, discipline and responsibility.

Fundraisers

The Music Department has two fundraisers a year in addition to concession stands at sporting events. The Junior High Music students earn a trip to Holiday World as an end of the year reward.
