Four BGS Students to Have Work Included in St. Louis Art Exhibition

Great news from Benton Grade School! Four students have been selected to participate in a special art exhibition of 100 pictures to travel throughout St. Louis this Spring! Works will be on display at Powell Hall, Peters Cultural Arts Center, The Magic House, St. Louis Public Library (Schlafly Branch), Plaza Frontenac and the Boeing Company. These young artists from Benton are kindergarteners, Samuel Adams and Camilla Frattini, first grader Robert "R.J." Key, and third grader Tenzley Sloan. According to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra's program materials, Picture the Music "invites [students] to create their own artistic interpretations in paintings, drawings, or colorings in response to a specific selection of classical music." The music selection for this year was Antonin DvorĖ‡ák's "Symphony No. 9, "From the New World"-Largo".

All four students will be considered for additional honor and recognition, in addition to their inclusion in the traveling exhibition. According to the website, "an Awards Ceremony honoring the 100 Finalists, including Maestro Award winners, St. Louis Symphony Award winners, Blue Ribbon Award winners and Special Recognition honorees, will take place at 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at Powell Hall, 718 North Grand Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63103. Families, teachers, and friends are all invited to attend." We are looking forward to this wonderful event!

Excellent student work that could not be sent to St. Louis for consideration (due to the seven-piece limit) will be included in a show at the Benton Public Library next week. Student artwork (with parent permissions to be viewed online) may be seen via: .
