Would you rather watch girls play basketball or watch boys play basketball? Benton girls start their season off with an away game at Carmi on October 30th at 6:00pm. The following Thursday both 7th and 8th grade play West Frankfort for the "Pink Out" game at 5:30, with face painting and concessions with great food options.

How good are they? Girls are just as good as boys playing basketball. The girls team this year has many different strategies. Jessica "Flash" G. is a great ball handler, but then Mia "Willsi" W. is a great shooter. Then there's the 7th grade team that has so many newcomers that they have been mostly playing in-house ball. One of the point guards, Malia W., who always plays wing, has awesome shooting ranges that she practices and makes all the time. Plus, our good screen setter is Cadence N.

Who's the best player? Some people would say that there's only one "best player," but really it's a whole team that's made up 11 or 12 players working together. As our 8th grade main coach Mark Dyel says, "I am hoping for a successful season. We have 12 girls on the 8th grade team. All of them are very experienced. They have been working very hard to prepare for the season. We lost one of our key players when Addi K. got hurt, but we expect her to be back before the season ends. If the girls continue to work hard, I could see 20 wins, a regional championship, and a state trophy. Why not us?"

We probably have the best student section because our school is so close and are great friends. During the season, when we have home games, our student section is packed and we all get involved pretty well. We help with concessions and we help out the coaches for the boys and girls basketball games. We paint our faces and have so much fun. We really get into it!

Should you go to a girls basketball game? I'd say you should come and support both our girls and boys basketball teams. If you decide to come, we'll see you there!
