Bus #1101 (Orange/Purple Bus) had a slight delay on this afternoon's route. Bus #1101 was making a turn and clipped the corner of a parked tree trimming vehicle. The police were called, and a report was made. We wanted you to be informed and let you know riders will have a slight delay being delivered home. Thank you.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 10th is the first day of school for students.
School will dismiss at 2:00 through August 26th.

Softball tryouts will be held in the 5/8 gym from 8-10am this morning

Baseball & Softball is canceled for today. Softball tryouts will be held inside in the 5/8 gym tomorrow (8-10am) if the field is wet.

Middle School Softball will have an open field tomorrow (7/26) and tryouts Wednesday (7/27) & Thursday (7/28) from 8-10am. You must have an updated physical on file.

Jr. High Baseball will have open fields Tuesday (7/19) and Wednesday (7/20) this week. Tryouts will take place on Thurday (7/21) and Friday (7/22). You must have a physical on file in order to participate.

Mr. Cantrell’s science classes recently completed their catapult projects and competition. The catapults were designed to launch a ping pong ball as far as possible. Pictures of some competitors and winners are attached. Thanks to Mr. Cantrell and the 5th grade teachers for a fun activity!




Reminder: Registration packets must be turned for all BGS students in order to be registered for the 2022-2023 school year. If you did no receive a registration packet or need an extra, they are available in the K-4 and 5-8 offices. Offices will remain open one week after the school year ends from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM each day.

Reminder: Sports physicals will be offered at BGS tomorrow (5/24) morning for current 6th and 7th grade students. Students wanting a physical should bring the completed forms that were sent home from school last week.

Current 6th and 7th grade BGS students interested in playing sports will have the opportunity to receive a sports physical at school on Tuesday, May 24th. The cost of the physical is $20 (checks mad payable to Family Healthcare Clinic), or a copy of a public aid card will be accepted as payment. Student were given information to be filled out prior to 5/24. If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Rock at 438-7181.

The Benton track and field athletes that competed in the stat meet at Carterville Saturday all finished in the top 8, earning state medals. Jaycee Webb - 2nd Place - Hurdles, Analisse McLainn - 5th Place - Pole Vault, and Logan Reed - 7th Place - 8th Grade 100 and 200 Meter Dash. Congratulations on a great end to your track season!

Good luck to our track and field athletes competing at the SIJHSAA state track meet at Carterville High School today! Field events start at 10:15 AM, followed by track finals at 12:00 PM.

Congratulations to Tenzley Sloan on being named the SIJHSAA Jim Burnes Leadership Award representative for Benton Grade School. Individuals considered for this awards are nominated not only for their involvement in junior high athletics, but also their participation in other school activities, as well as community involvement.
